Line up 2018: Elida Almeida
by Miriam Rossius
This music from Cape Verde Islands makes the sky look brighter and the warm, smooth voice brings some ease into your day. Elida Almeida represents the new generation of Capverdian musicians. But contrary to what one might initially expect, her songwriting does not at all focus on well-being. For her second album the 24-year old singer recorded love and protest songs and a track about domestic violence. The album is named after a mountain village on the Eastern coast of Santiago island: Kebrada. It’s the place where Elida Almeida grew up with her grandparents. The audience at Rudolstadt will see her on stage on Friday, 6 July.
