Gloom can be a strong stimulus. Thanks to that the Cowboy Junkies unexpectedly had great material for a new album and in 2018 published their first CD after a break of several years. Dismal political realities and personal worries animated guitar player Michael Timmins to write songs about a fragile world in very disturbing times. „All That Reckoning“ sounds like the very familiar blend of country, blues and folk that has been ecstasizing their audience for more than 30 years. But at the same time this collection of melancholic, thoughtful statements verifies that the Canadian pioneers of alternative country are still relevant and up-to-date.
