Andreas Gabriels Verändler
by Miriam Rossius
These musicians are able to move mountains. And when they play the Alps might unexpectedly be behind New Orleans. This big band’s leader Andreas Gabriel is one of Switzerland's most innovative and talented musicians: his fiddle sound is situated somewhere between twirling and majestic, he manages to make traditions sound fresh.
He has named his ensemble "Verändler" (a pun with the term "Ländler") - which does what the name promises: spicing up the Ländler-sound without losing its original character. The instrumentation is very unusual: fiddle, schwyzerörgeli, double bass, büchel, violoncello, trumpet, trombone, horn, alphorn, saxophone, guitar & halszither. A highly charming temptation.
