Line up 2020: Kronos Quartet

by Miriam Rossius

It’s very likely that they are the most versatile string quartet on the planet! If you really don’t know them, please meet them and forget everything you think you now about a string quartet so far. The San Francisco based ensemble bursts all limits between genres and defies all concepts about New Music. Folk songs, chamber music, rock, jazz, soundtracks, minimal music - numerous albums and concert programs are characterised by a very own handwriting, like e.g. recently a project with the two female Iranian singers Mahsa and Marjan Vahdat.

Since 1973 the quartet members have almost completely changed. But David Harrington who founded the ensemble is still on board. And both then and now the list of artists Kronos Quartet has worked with reads like the Who is Who of 20th and 21st century’s music. In Rudolstadt David Harrington (violin), John Sherba (violin), Hank Dutt (viola), and Sunny Yang (cello) will perform a special program dedicated to Independence Day, the US national holiday. And yes: The concert will take place on Saturday, 4th July.
