Katariin Raska (EST)

Katariin Raska (EST)Born in 1986, Katariin Raska is a Tallinn-based musician whose background is in choral and wind orchestras and a leavening of Scottish Highland bagpipe music. At the age of 18, she was playing Estonia’s ‘pipe instrument’, the literal translation of torupill and (soprano) saxophone as her main instruments. While studying abroad, she got fired up by her homeland’s traditional jaws harp, parmu pill (literally ‘the horsefly's instrument’). Ms Raska’s music combines free improvisation with her homeland’s strong folk traditions. Ever heard polka or waltz played on jaws harp? That’s Estonian… That’s Katariin Raska.
