Maryam Akhondy & Banu (IRN)
Maryam Akhondy & Banu (IRN)Banu is the Persian word for noble or distinguished lady. A whole choir of them will be coming to Rudolstadt. The group of Iranian women living in exile was founded by Maryam Akhondy almost twenty years ago in Cologne. Maryam, a virtuosic singer in her own right, has been collecting a rich treasure of folk songs telling about hard work, weddings, deep grief or playful parties. By performing these songs Banu wants to give a voice to the women who never had the chance to be present on the stages of festivals and concert halls. At the same time this all-female a-capella ensemble tries to represent different ethnic groups and regions of Iran.
