Imarhan (ALG)

Imarhan (ALG)

Imarhan (ALG)Imarhan (meaning ‘the ones I care about’ in Tamasheq, a Toureg tongue) is the latest band to blow hot and cool out of the Sahara. The sextet from Tamanrasset – a camel caravan staging point in southern Algeria with a Tuareg community of northern Malian descent – combines the funkier groove of Western Africa with the more desolate, subtle tones of Saharan traditional folk music and desert rock. “…There is always the need for a new generation, so that no one forgets about Tuareg music. There is Tinariwen, and now there is Imarhan as well.” (Iyad Moussa Ben Abderahmane aka Sadam talking to Richie Troughton, The Quietus)
